Nau mai, haere mai! I’m Julia, a theatre artist and videographer based in Wellington New Zealand.

Since graduating in 2006 with a degree in Theatre and Film Studies, I have spent the last decade working as a Director, Producer, Performer and Stage Manager on theatre projects in New Zealand and Australia. In 2007 I spent 2 years living in Melbourne where I developed work which was presented at the Melbourne and Adelaide Fringe Festivals.

Since returning to New Zealand in 2009, I have been involved in more than 20 theatre projects in different roles. In 2011 I won a Chapman Kipp Award for Stage Manager of the Year and in 2015 Sanctuary, a theatre piece I directed and performed in was nominated for “Edgiest Show” at the Nelson Fringe Festival. Recent projects include producing The Lord Lackbeards Touring Company’s North Island Tour of Hamlet and Ophelia thinks harder in 2016 as well as directing the latter.  While in this role The Lord Lackbeards was nominated for a Wellington Airport Community Award in 2016.

As a videomaker I am skilled in all areas of video making from pre-production to post-production. My client list includes Wellington City Council, Christchurch City Council, Video New Zealand, New Zealand Red Cross, Silverstripe and Chariot. Services include videography, editing and script writing.

I have also facilitated numerous theatre and video workshops with both adults and children. I teach a weekly adult class on physical theatre at Wellington Actors Dojo. In 2016 I was the Filmmaking Mentor for Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand’s project Shakespeare in Motion, which gave 13 – 24 year olds the opportunity to make a documentary on the subject of Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand Regional and National University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festivals. In the last year I have run one off workshops for Nelson Fringe Festival 2015, Summer Shakespeare Wellington, Wonderplay Drama, Victoria University Students Theatre Association and Wellington Homeschool Network.

Get in touch if you would like to discuss any of the above work or anything new!
