A winter's tale is on in the open air at…
Last week I attended and filmed at the opening of an exhibition at Pataka Museum on the poet Alistair Te Ariki Campbell. Alistair was my Grampa, so you can understand that it was a surreal experience seeing his glasses and his chair, tidied up with all the dog hair removed, placed in a gallery like sacred relics. The exhibition features documentary footage and photos of Grampa’s life, as well as paintings by Peter Coates based on Grampa’s poetry. The exhibition was opened by Witi Ihimaera and Albert Wendt. Below is a video of Wendt reading the poem he wrote on hearing of Grampa’s death.
The exhibition is on until May 1st, then heading to Rarotonga
